Ann Austin Gaskin

Ann Austin Gaskin, age 74, of Chagrin Falls, OH, died at home on Friday, December 13, 2024, of cancer. 

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, William Edward Gaskin. She was the proud mother of David Gaskin (wife Sarah Nolan), and Kate Gaskin Bru (husband Joe Bru); Adored “Nana” to grandchildren Molly and Henry Bru, and Greta, Liza, and Hattie Gaskin; Cherished sister to David Austin (wife Joan) and sister-in-law to Linda Irwin-Soiu (husband Jeff); Aunt to Janet Tooze, Jim Irwin and Jeff Irwin.

 Ann was born in Hanover, IN, and received a Master’s in Library Science from Indiana University before settling in Cleveland. She began her professional career as a Children’s Librarian at Bertram Woods Library in Shaker Hts., and retired from Chagrin Falls Schools after 20 additional years of encouraging reading. In retirement she spent her time doting on her grandkids and spending time with her wonderful husband, friends and neighbors. She indulged in quiet mornings with a newspaper, listening to James Taylor, and reading fiction. She loved Nantucket, hydrangeas, peonies, and the color blue.

 A celebration of Ann’s life will be held at Federated Church in Chagrin Falls on Saturday, February 1st at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests planting hydrangeas or peonies in remembrance and celebration of the brevity and beauty of life.
