Betty “Cookie” Howell, aged 71 of Tuscarawas, OH passed away peacefully at the Ohio’s Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, OH with her granddaughter, Shannon, by her side on February 26,2025.

She loved her family over everything and she made sure that they knew that. Until her health prevented her, she enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, playing Bingo and camping.
She had many occupations over the years, but the one she enjoyed the most was doing income taxes with H&R Block, until her retirement.
She is survived by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 53 years, Mike Howell Sr., daughters; April (Mike) Knisely and Carlene Howell, and son, Michael Howell Jr. Also surviving are sisters, Jackie (Terry) Dowdle and Eva (Ronnie) Tinney and brother, William Ellwood Jr. Grandchildren who loved calling her “Boopie”: Joshua Bollon, Shannon (Andrew) Albright, Jacob Fawcett, Alexius (Lance) Taylor, Sierra (Fiancé Trent Leeper) Kramer, Brooke McIntyre and Courtney Baxter. Great-grandchildren, whom she spoiled every chance she got: Averie, Rilynn, Kennady, Theo, Angel, Shiloh, Finnley, London, Salem, Makenna and Ava. Also surviving the home is her pet companion, Ginger, whom she loved dearly. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a special “son” Kurt Bright.
She was preceded in death by her first born daughter, Angel K (Howell) Hackney with whom she patiently waited to meet at the Pearly Gates of Heaven for 14 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents, William and Stella Ellwood.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at Claymont Health and Rehabilitation, ER staff at Trinity Twin City, ICU staff at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Medical Center and Ohio’s Hospice Truman House for the wonderful care given to her until her passing.
