Bonnie Jane (Leas) Ballard

Bonnie Jane (Leas) Ballard, 68, of Akron, Ohio, passed away on September 29, 2020 from complications following surgery. She was born on May 24, 1952 to the late James Leas and Betty (Larvick) Leas in Akron, Ohio. She grew up in Tallmadge, Ohio and Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. She lived in the Falls for most of her life.

Family was everything to Bonnie. She was blessed to grow up with so many Leas relatives. She was the proud mother of Jim and Jaclyn. She cherished her friendship with sisters Judy, Janet and Billie. She treasured spending time with grandchildren Jordan, Addison and Jack, and was a special aunt to Kristen, Adam and Nicholas.

Bonnie had a good heart full of kindness and concern for others. Her door was always open to family and friends and she was known by many as Grandma Bonnie. She loved the beach, enjoyed cooking and couldn’t live without her cats, especially Tiger.

Bonnie graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1969 and held many jobs over the years. She attended and earned a degree from The University of Akron in 1993 while working full time. Yet Bonnie’s greatest achievement was facing, fighting, overcoming and coping with serious health problems throughout her lifetime, always with courage and strength.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, James Leas and Betty (Leas) Wrayno; stepfather, Joseph Wrayno; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her including her son Jim (Gretchen) Ballard; daughter, Jaclyn Ballard; sisters, Judy (Mark) Vaughan, Janet Swinehart and Billie Leas; grandchildren, Jordan, Addison and Jack Ballard; niece, Kristen Vaughan Campagna (John Chapdelaine); nephews, Adam and Nicholas Lipari; many other extended family members; and lifelong friend, Judy Seger.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the doctors, nurses and other staff members at Summa’s Akron City Hospital for their compassionate care and family support. Cremation has taken place. Due to COVID, interment and a celebration of Bonnie’s life will be held at a later date when everyone can gather safely and give each other hugs.
