Brenda Meyers, age 65, vibrant outdoors woman, traveler, beautiful inside and out, has gone home to be with the Lord. Brenda passed away February 13, 2021 with her family at her side. Brenda’s generosity was expressed through cards, kind words, the best hugs, crafts, baking with her grandkids, treats for her grandpups, donations to her favorite charities, and dedication to those in need. She dedicated her life to serving others, including her career as the first female Custodian/Fireman for Canton City Schools. Hundreds of elementary and middle school students walked the sidewalks she cleared, the halls she cleaned, and benefited from classrooms she kept warm.
Brenda enjoyed live music, festivals, amusement parks, adventurous weekends and extended vacations. Her interests included bike riding, hiking, and sightseeing, but her lifelong passion was walking railroad tracks. Brenda began walking the railroad tracks with her grandfather Clark. They would walk from his house on Dover Ave in Canton, Ohio to Windfield Way, where she grew up. Years later she met Joe and the two of them walked hundreds of miles of railroad tracks together, seeking out railroad bridges, tunnels, scenic overlooks, and favorite picnics spots. All told Brenda visited 49 of the 50 states. According to her husband, she demonstrated unconditional selflessness for the 32 years they were together.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 25 years Joe; two stepdaughters, Michelle (Tim) Allen, Angela (Ken) Nicholson, and “third daughter” Jamie Grimes; seven grandchildren, Liath Nicholson Kelley, James Kelley, Logan Nicholson, Grace Nicholson, Dakota Allen, Gracie Allen, and Lily Allen; older sisters, Linda Hallam, and Becky Shimek; sisters-in-law, Kathy Collier and Susan Meyers; nieces and nephews; and too numerous to name are the close friends, relatives, and neighbors who she loved and who loved her in return.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rails To Trails Conservancy (
