Brian Bowers

April 14, 1979 — April 29, 2023

Cleveland

Brian Jeffery Bowers, age 44, passed away suddenly on April 29,2023.  Brian is survived by his loving fiancee, Erin Applegate; mother, Anita Porter (Edward); brother, Kevin Bowers (Alice); nephew, Alex Bowers.  Brian was a devoted and adored father to Jenna Rickard, Tyler Bowers and McKinley Bowers.  He was preceded in death by his mentor and best friend for life, Kevin Joseph Kelly.

While growing up in Cuyahoga Falls, his exposure to theater and music began at Brad French Studios and with the M&Ms show choir in high school.  Brian attended the Baldwin-Wallace Musical Theater program. Here he developed a lifelong presence in the theater and film industry in the Cleveland area.  He eventually secured a job with the 48 Hour Film Project, where he made a long-lasting impact.  He performed in theaters all over the Cleveland area, including the Beck Center, Cassidy Theater, Weathervane, Willoughby Fine Arts, TrueNorth, Playhouse Square and Caesar’s Forum, where he also served as a board member for several years.  Brian was most recently on stage at Access Theatre Project in one of his most beloved roles in “Betrayal”.

Brian was very proud of his own business ventures, Gorilla Film School and Cleveland Film Collective, achieving non-profit status and working diligently on making the film industry in Cleveland better for all.

Brian was most recently employed as Box Office and Marketing Manager at Case Western Reserve University’s Maltz Performing Arts Center.  He loved being back in the performing arts center role and was looking forward to new adventures with this amazing gig.  He was a well-respected and loved actor, singer, dancer, director, writer, producer, and filmmaker.  But most importantly, Brian was a loving father.  He dedicated his whole life to his children and his work in the film industry, inspiring generations of future filmmakers and will continue to do so.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.  To quote one of Brian’s favorite singer/songwriters, Ed Sheeran, “I hope that I see the world as you did, cause I know a life with love is a life that’s been lived.”
