Bruce Edward Thomas passed away on January 5, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. He was born to William and Leota Thomas on March 20, 1947. He had one brother, William Jr, and one sister, Carrie. He grew up and attended school in the greater Cleveland area where he developed his lust for living.
And live, he did. Bruce’s 75 years were colorful and full of many self-imposed adventures. He was a free spirit moving around as he saw fit, living life on his terms, and never apologizing for it. He came of age during the counterculture movement of the 1960s and fully embraced this way of thinking. Living fast and living hard he traveled from one end of the country to the other, and back.
His charismatic smile and easy-going disposition seemed to attract interesting characters to him. He was an exuberant personality who could overtake the room the moment he walked into it. Bruce had endless ideas about the future, and he loved to embellish a good story to anyone who would listen. He accepted every person he met for who they were and just enjoyed their company, before moving on, always seeming to have a soft spot for the underdog.
Bruce gave advice, that came from his experiences growing up in America during the period of civil rights and revolution. His way of thinking was shaped during this time frame, and he carried these mannerisms with him throughout his years.
He treasured his family, although at times his way of showing it may have seemed a little unconventional. He tried, the only way he knew how to show his love and appreciation and to be there for those he cherished.
Bruce was preceded in death by both of his parents, his brother, and one son. He leaves behind a legacy of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as well as nephews, nieces, and friends. He will be remembered. He will be missed.
There will be a small service for immediate family members only. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society. Condolences and special memories of Bruce can be shared with his family online at
