With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Carol Kormendy Abe, aged 90, on Saturday, August 10th, in Newport Beach, CA. Born on December 27, 1933, in Cleveland, Ohio, Carol spent her life in Rocky River, OH, before moving to Newport Beach to be closer to her family in her later years.
Carol was a devoted mother, grandmother, and cherished friend to many. Known for her boundless kindness and ability to make everyone feel like a lifelong friend, she never met a stranger. Carol’s humor, fun-loving spirit, and generous heart touched all who knew her. She had a remarkable ability to bring joy, and laughter to any room, and her enthusiasm for helping others was matched only by her passion for life.
A vibrant and adventurous soul, Carol embraced life fully. She loved travel, had a green thumb in the garden, and deeply appreciated a good meal shared with loved ones. As a lifelong resident of Rocky River, Carol was active in her community, where her contributions and friendships left a lasting impact.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Steven and Helen Kormendy. She leaves behind her loving daughter, Lisa Abe Gels (husband Al and children, Charlie and Caroline), and her son, Steven Kormendy Abe (partner Samantha and children, Stephanie, Alexander, and Parker), who will continue to honor her memory and carry on her legacy of love, laughter, and service.
Carol’s life was a testament to the power of love, connection, and joy. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit continues to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Far West Center, 29133 Health Campus Dr, Westlake, OH 44145, in Carol’s memory. Condolences and special memories of Carol can be shared with the family online at www.heritagecremationsociety.com.
