On February 15, 2016, Carrie Ann Martin, 67, of Kent, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord, with her family by her side, at University Hospital Ahuja Medical Center in Beachwood, Ohio, following a brief battle with pneumonia. Carrie Ann was a lifetime resident of Kent and was preceded in death by her parents, Burton and Comfort (Spelman) Martin, and her sister, Deborah Martin Hendrickson.

She was a lifetime member of the United Church of Christ in Kent and also very active in the mental health and recovery field serving Townhall II, Coleman Professional Services and the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) Portage County Chapter. She was also a member of Coterie, Delta Zeta and a foster parent to over 22 children.

She is survived by her sons Lamont Coleman of Cleveland, Ohio, Justin Mclaughlin of Washington, DC, and Jeremy Martin of Kent and daughters Sara Jo Martin Lampert (Jen) of Streetsboro, Ohio, Marissa Martin of Kent and sisters Robbin A. Moore (Howard) and Tracey  Pavlick Scarbro (Bernie) of Ravenna. She is also survived by 3 granddaughters and 2 grandsons, as well as nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 12, 2016 at 1:00 pm at The United Church of Christ in Kent, Ohio with a reception following the service. Anyone wishing to make a donation to the Carrie Ann Martin Memorial Fund can do so via the Gofundme.com website: gofundme.com/7yqmkm3k to help cover the cost of services and the remainder will be donated to The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (Portage County Chapter) in Carrie Ann’s name. Her cremation is being handled by The Heritage Cremation Society, Louisville, Ohio, and anyone wishing to share their condolences can do so via their website: https://www.heritagecremationsociety.com//obituaries/ and she will be buried at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent, Ohio in the Martin Spelman family plot.
