Catherine R. Steele, 100, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2022.
She was born in Canton and was a member of the McKinley Eagle’s Club. Catherine loved her dogs through the years. In the 30’s she had worked for Harry London wrapping candy in his garage.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Halter, who died In WWII in Germany; second husband Frank; son Richard; great grandchild Jacquie Gallo; sisters Betty Bugh, Mary Popick and brother Joseph Johanning. Catherine is survived by daughters Cheryl (Jim Schmidt) Steele, Kelley Molla; grandchildren Nick, Danny, Lisa, Lindsay, Ricky, Tracie, Michelle, Kathy and Joy; 27 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Our mom was a fighter. She wore red lipstick in public, liked her coffee black and her one “Blatz” beer at night. During her last days on earth, she was unresponsive, until she heard her grandsons Nick and Danny speak to her and tell her they love her. She opened her eyes told them she loved them and wanted a beer. At that moment, she was able to make us laugh and cry at the same time. Jesus was finally ready and called her home on Thursday around 1 p.m. We would like to thank Bethany Nursing Home for their devoted care to Cappy. Crossroads Hospice your compassion and knowledge helped us get through a very sad time in our lives.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crossroads Hospice or Bethany Nursing Home.
