Charles Smith passed away on March 24, 2022. He was born July 23, 1925 to the late Charles W. and Anna Smith. He proudly served in the Navy in WWII from 1943-1946 on the LST 582. He worked at Ford Motor Company for 13 years before becoming an owner/operator of two McDonald’s drive-ins. He was a member of the Louisville Kiwanis for 50 years, never missing a meeting. The last couple of years, he loved going on rides, sometimes putting over 100 miles on the car, looking at everything and nothing. More recently he loved a daily game of 500 Rummy with his daughter. He frequently said he didn’t care if he won or lost, he just loved playing the game.
He is preceded in death by younger brothers, Robert and Richard; and son, Charles “Bud” Smith.
He is survived by a brother, Thomas Miller of Florida; daughter, Cindy Virdo and granddaughter, Courtney.
I would like to give special thanks to his caregiver, Justine, who went over and above and genuinely cared for my Dad. Also, to the Veterans and Aultman Hospice.
Chuck will be buried at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery for Veterans in a private ceremony. There are no other services planned. It’s comforting to know that he has been reunited with his son, whom he missed so much.
