David Alan Ratzel passed away on December 18, 2022 at his home with his loving family at his side. David was born on March 3, 1962 in Wooster, Ohio to Clifford and Jean (Edgar) Ratzel. David graduated from Smithville High School in 1980. He had a keen interest in drafting and earned numerous awards for his accomplishments in drafting.
On May 10, 1986, David married Pamela A. Hensel. They made their home in Elkhart, Indiana where David worked as a Draftsman designing mobile homes for Parkwood Homes. They later relocated to Ashland along with the mobile home that David had designed. David worked as Office Manager at SPI in Ashland.
David was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, where he served as an Elder and Ministerial Servant. All members of the congregation were touched by David’s compassion, enjoyed his singing and benefited from his organizational skills.
David loved spending time with his nieces and nephews, playing cards and board games and he loved to sing. Animals of all kinds were especially enjoyable and comforting to David. David was kind, caring and deeply devoted to his family and faith. He will be missed by many.
David is survived by his loving wife, Pamela; mother, Jean Ratzel; sisters, Nancy King and Joanne (Denny) Gerber; 6 nieces, 2 nephews and several great nieces and great nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Clifford Ratzel, nieces, Shannon Gerber and his father-in-law, Charles Hensel.
A private family interment service will be held at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Wooster, Ohio. A memorial service via Zoom will be held on January 7, 2023 at 3:00pm with Rick Akam officiating.
