Denise Ann Lukens

Denise Ann Lukens, 71, of Dennison, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Ohio’s Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, following a period of declining health.

Born on February 13, 1953, in Dover, Ohio, Denise was the daughter of the late Lawrence P. and Betty (Chaney) Chercony. She was a 1971 graduate from New Philadelphia High School. She would continue her education at Kent State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Denise had a love for the ocean and visiting lighthouses when she traveled. Her fondness of lighthouses led to quite the collection in her home. She loved animals, especially her cats which she would spoil and love. She was an avid Ohio sports fan and enjoyed rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Indians. When she was not at home reading or listening to some of her favorite music, she could be found dancing it up to her favorite local bands.

She is survived by her two daughters, Miranda (Nicholas) Trolio of Massillon; Mary (Jonathan) Gentsch of New Philadelphia; a grandson, Kyler Trolio; two sisters, Linda Rupe of Dover, Ohio and Mary Jo Dessecker of New Philadelphia, Ohio; and many special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Larry Chercony and her companion, Robert “Gibby” Gibbs.

A Celebration of Denise's life will be held at a later date for her family and friends.
