Donald Edward Cardinal II

Donald Edward Cardinal II, 67, of Diamond, Ohio, passed away on September 26, 2024. Born on March 9, 1957, in Ravenna, Ohio, Doni’s family later moved to Rootstown where he attended Rootstown High School. Donald, fondly known as Doni, lived a life marked by warmth, laughter, and love for family. 

Doni was a beacon of joy and friendliness, known for his contagious smile and fun-loving spirit. He had an innate ability to make everyone feel like a friend and was always the first to offer help, no matter the situation and give the shirt off his back to someone in need. From his younger days at Hickory Hills Campground to his grandchildren’s birthday parties, Doni would light up a room with his smile and love for life. Doni always cherished golfing with his sons, a pastime that he and his youngest son, Matthew continued up until Doni’s passing.

Survived by his devoted mother, Mary Ellen Cardinal; his children, Matthew Cardinal, Reese (Kristina) Cardinal, Heath Cardinal; his stepchildren, Jimmy (Lisa) Hostetler, and Lisa (Michael) Thain. Doni's legacy of love and laughter lives vibrantly through them. He was also a cherished Pop Pop to his nine grandchildren. He leaves behind his siblings, Denise (David) Arango and Debbie (Jeff) Michael, sharing countless cherished memories.

Doni was preceded in death by his father, Donald Cardinal, his son, Michael Cardinal, and his brother, Kevin Lohr.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Rootstown First Congregational Church, located at 4022 OH-44, Rootstown, Ohio, on Thursday October 3rd, from 6-8 PM.
