Duane C. Taylor, age 91, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on March 23, 2023. Duane was born on July 16, 1931 in Satanta, Kansas to parents Carl and Edith Taylor. Duane was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters Naomi, Melbe Jo (Jody), and Linda and by his beloved wife of 59 years, Norma J. (Fryer) Taylor. He joined the army in 1954, serving most of his time in Germany. Duane worked at Dover Chemical for several years before he and Norma moved to New Mexico to manage a motel for Norma’s great aunt. Over the next several years they managed motels in Colorado and Ohio. Duane also worked in the oil field as a well tender, in pest control and in maintenance at the New Philadelphia New Towne Mall.

Although Duane and Norma had no children of their own, they have numerous nieces and nephews and developed a large extended family of friends. Their faith was an important part of their lives and they were members at the First Baptist Church of Jackson in Massillon, Ohio for many years. They loved the southwest and the mountains and traveled there whenever they could. Duane also loved his pet cats, drawing and coloring, and writing poetry. He even wrote an autobiography entitled “From Log Cabin to City Streets and a Few Stops Along the Way” that was published in 2019. Duane is described by his loved ones as kind, easy going and generous, but he also had an ornery sense of humor.

Duane was cared for the last several years at the Dover Park Village Health Care Center and was interred at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Donations can be made in Duane’s memory to The First Baptist Church of Jackson, 8925 Strausser Street NW, Massillon, Ohio 44646.

A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Jackson on April 15th with calling hours starting at 11:00 and the service to follow at noon. Condolences and special memories of Duane can be shared with his loved ones at www.heritagecremationsociety.com
