Earl Jay Pennington, 72, of Ionia, MI passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on June 17, 2023. Earl was born on April 15, 1951 to the late Robert and Ailene (Voorheis) Pennington. He grew up surrounded by multiple cousins whom he considered his siblings. Earl graduated from Saranac High School and went on to attend God’s Bible School and College in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was there that he married and started his family. Earl was a hard worker, generous to a fault, always willing to provide for his wife and children, family, friends and enemies alike. Some time after returning to Michigan, he chose to become a Corrections Officer, and retired from Riverside Correctional Facility after serving there 27 years. In retirement, Earl enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking, gardening, and anything he could build with his hands. His sarcastic sense of humor, practicality, and indomitable fighting spirit will be missed by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a dear cousin, Karen (Cecil) Strimback.
He is survived by his four children, Rebekah (Jerry), Jonathan (Cami), Pamela (Andrew), Ashley; 11 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
