Edward Hauff

May 2, 1950 — November 7, 2024

Brook Park

Edward Hauff, 74, of Brook Park passed away Thursday, November 7, 2024.

He was born May 2, 1950, in Grossaittingen, Germany to Gustav Hauff and Wera Ostapyuk.

Survived by daughter, Jamie Brandt (Hauff); and son, Jody Hauff; brothers, Waldemar Hauff, Paul Hauff, and Gustov Hauff; grandchildren; Jesse Brandt, Jada Hauff, and Taylen Hauff.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Hauff and brother Zhenya Hauff.

Edward was a 1968 graduate of West Tech High School. He was then a Railroad Engineer for 41 1/2 years retiring in 2010. His epic railroad stories were known to all who allowed him time to share. 😀

Ed came to the US from Germany on a boat at age two with the rest of his family. He was dedicated to his family. At age 15 his father passed, he and his brothers worked to take care of their mother and the home. Ed always prided himself in caring for others.

During the beginning of his working years, he worked various jobs at the Westside Market. It was there where he eventually met the love of his life, his wife of almost 50 years, Marilyn Pasek. They married on July 20, 1974. They started their marriage living in Cleveland, Ohio in an upstairs duplex. Eventually, the duplex owners sold it to Hopkins Airport for expansion, leading them to their home in Brook Park, Ohio where they spent the rest of their lives. Together they created a beautiful family and a beautiful life in that home.

Anyone who knew Ed knew that he was one of the most kind-hearted people they would ever meet. No one could leave his house without plenty of food, drinks, and take home gifts in a bag. His happiness in life was making others happy. In his youth, he cared for his family and, after marrying Marilyn, he dedicated himself completely to her and their children, Jamie and Jody. His family was his pride and joy. As he and Marilyn aged, he lived his life caring for her. She was the love of his life, and he never really knew how to live without her after she passed six months before him.

Besides the dedication he had to Marilyn and his children, he had other loves. He loved his brothers, nephews, nieces and extended family. His happiness was always shining through when laughing and spending time with them. He grew up playing soccer with his brothers at German Central and was able to continue his love of soccer through his granddaughters. Poppa attended as many games as possible and loved giving them candy after the games. Also, at any opportunity Ed would be shopping, finding any requests made by others or multiple needs for the home. His shopping with Marilyn always included many trips to Amish country as that was their favorite place to visit. He was also a proud, dedicated member of VFW Post #3345. He spent many hours there supporting events and hanging out with friends. Lastly, his love of purple. In true Ed fashion, he took on Marilyn’s passion for purple and never let go. Purple Eddie was known by many and was found wearing purple at any event. “A day without purple is a day without sunshine” he would say.

For fun, Ed loved laughing, spending time with friends and family, and watching the Browns, Guardians, and any action movie.
