Frank Bell son of Mary and Frank Zgonc, retired engineer and longtime resident of Avon, passed away on March 2, 2015 at Avon Oaks Nursing Home. He was born in Lorain on September 2, 1922. Frank was a member of the Lorain High School class of 1940 and received his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1948. As part of the “Greatest Generation”, he served in the Army 1294th Engineers Combat Battalion and was stationed on the Island of Luzon, Philippines during the war. After receiving his degree, Frank began his career at Standard Screw Machine Company in Elyria and spent most of his 37 years working in the Moan Division of Stanadyne Corp. Frank retired in 1985 and enjoyed traveling, golf, tennis, sailing and swimming and along with his wife Mary Jane, were active members of the Guys and Dolls dance club. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane, of 63 years, his two sons, Doug and Jeff, daughter in-laws, Gladys and Karla and his granddaughter Laura. A celebration of life will be held at the Misencik Funeral Home at 36363 Detroit Rd., Avon, OH 44011 on Saturday, March 7th from 1 to 3PM. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the National Stroke Research Center.
