Gene (Mickey) Strother, 89, fell asleep in death on October 23. He was born in Stillwell to Albert and Marjorie (Morris) Strother.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara (Lomas) Strother of Brinkhaven; son, Ron (Marge) Strother of Wooster; daughter, Shannon Strother; son, Travis Strother of Columbus; grandchildren, Jessica and Mitchell Strother of Holmesville; great-grandchildren, Anna and Matthew of Wooster; sister, Sophia (Richard) Doyle of Findlay; and sister, Janie Clark of Wooster. He was preceded in death by his brother, Albert (JoAnn) Strother of Nashville.
Mickey loved telling jokes and kept a witty tongue into his last few days. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball, farming, and attending farm and livestock auctions. After retiring from Kaylor Elevator in Danville, he transported area Amish for several years.
He had tremendous Bible knowledge and held closely to the promise of a future resurrection of the dead, and of God’s purpose for the meek to inherit paradise right here on earth forever. (John 5:28, 29; Matthew 5:5; Psalm 37:29) His favorite scripture was Psalm 83:18, which he could quote even when suffering with advanced dementia: “That men may know that thou whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.”
