George Phillip Barrett was born November 21st, 1930 in Social Circle, Georgia. He was the first son to the union of John and Annie Mae Barrett. Annie Mae relocated to Cleveland, Ohio in 1935 when George was five years old. George attended Rutherford B Hayes Elementary and East Technical High school. George was a member of The Euclid Avenue Congregational Church where he was also baptized.
George enlisted in the United States Air force in 1949 where he was trained as a Communication Specialist teletype operator on board aircraft. He was honorably discharged in 1954.
After returning to civilian life, George attended The Copper School of Art and graduated with a diploma in Commercial Art and Layout Design. This career path alignment with his interest of art, music, camping, photography, and other outdoor activities. George was an associate member for the Tuskegee Airman North Coast Chapter Cleveland, Ohio where he served as President for many years.
George loved traveling. If you knew him, you were going to learn about the different cultures, fashions, and cuisine of the places he’d visited.
George P. Barrett departed this life on Saturday, November 25th, 2023. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 68 years, Mary Lee Barrett, four children, Ramond, Dean, Wayne and Gloria Barrett, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, and a host of life-long friends.
