George passed away on March 27th, surrounded by his family. He was 93 years old. George is survived by his wife and partner of 59 years, Jeanne; his children, Wade, Susan, Melissa (Robert) Stoerkel, Gillian (David Vish), and David (Denise Brock). He leaves his beloved grandchildren, Jeffrey (Devan) Stoerkel, Emily (Christopher) Korthaus, Haleigh, Ethan and Alec; and his great grandchildren, Harper and Oliver Stoerkel; his loving nephews, Russell (Lynn) and Jeffrey (Amy) Rancourt and their children, Matthew (Anastasia), Adam, Jacob, and Sabrina.
George was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Catherine. George was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York by Lebanese immigrants, Wade and Isabelle. A graduate of Fordham University, George was also a veteran having served in the Army from 1953-1955 and achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant. George was an award-winning commercial photographer by trade and a gifted storyteller by nature. He had a penchant for pressing buttons and had a tremendous, if not often inappropriate sense of humor. Gorgeous George, as he like to call himself, never met a stranger. He would strike up a conversation with everyone and engaged every baby he ever met. He was happiest when he had an audience or was with his loved ones. He had a strong affinity for old movies, baseball and mediocre sherry. George believed fiercely that his children were better at everything than anyone else.
An end-of-life celebration will be held for the family at a later date. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, you raise a glass of sherry and toast Poppa…. The man, the myth, the legend. He was loved. Condolences and special memories of George can be shared with his family online at www.heritagecremationsociety.com
