George Lyras age 79 passed away March 4, 2024 from an extended illness. He was born in Canton, Ohio on May 30, 1944. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1963. He was honorably discharged from the Army after 6 years of service.  George moved to Florida where he began his own successful painting business. He returned to Canton in 1999, reunited with his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Linda Osborne and they were married in 2001. George worked for Kell Painting for 23 years until he retired. 

George is survived by his loving wife, Linda who was his soul mate of 22 years; son, Ty (Katie) Abraham; his special granddaughters, Elsah and Sigourney Abraham, whom he loved so much and had many fun years with; his daughter, Gina (Marco) Schirato; and granddaughter, Zoe Schirato; daughter-in-law, Tamara Abraham; granddaughters, Brittney and Jessica Goodman.  George is also survived by his beloved sister, Mary Hinkel; his brothers-in-law, Scott (Barb) McFarren, Cullen McFarren; sisters-in-law, Jetta Orr and Mirzita Osborne; aunt, Thea; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  George also leaves behind his pet bird, Luna. They had an unusual and loving relationship, bringing him much company, amusement and fun. 


George never met a stranger; he had many friends and was loved by many. 


George was preceded in death by his mother, Despina Lyras; son, Mark Abraham; grandson, Brandon Goodman; brother-in-law, Ed Hinkle; father-in-law, Mark Osborne; mother-in-law, Hazel McFarren; brothers-in-law, Mark J. Osborne, Larry Osborne, and Charles Orr. 


Cremation is planned without services at George’s request. The family is planning a private celebration of his life at a later date. Condolences and special memories of George can be shared with his family online at www.heritagecremationsociety.com.
