Gilbert J. Vasek, 88, passed away April 7, 2020, due to complications of pneumonia.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Joan (nee Bajdek); daughter Therese (Jeffrey) Rak; grandchildren Tyler and Sara; Uncle of five; great uncle of two. Preceeded in death by his parents John and Rose Vasek; brother John Jr. (Blanche) and sister Rosemary (John) Kosowatz, and son Glenn.
Gilbert was born in Cleveland, Ohio, April 12, 1931. Growing up he was an active member with his family of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. East Tech High School graduate 1949. Korean War Army Veteran. Founding member and first Commander of VFW Post 9520 in Brunswick, Ohio. Gil was a certified Czech who loved traveling, visiting all 50 states and over 12 foreign countries. He made friends with people from Scotland and Sweden along with just about everyone he met. He retired from NASA and has two patents. He was smart, funny, and was a great husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.
