Gordon R. Benson

Gordon R. Benson 87, of Akron passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022. Gordon was born May 14, 1934 in Jamestown NY. The son of the late Janet Erickson Benson and William R. Benson. Gordon was a graduate of Jamestown High School in 1952, and the Cleveland Institute of Art, majoring in Design. Gordon married Carol Jean Maringer in Cleveland Ohio. Together they had 6 children, Darryl and Barbette Benson of Austintown, Ohio, Dane and Laurie Benson of Canfield, Dawn and Wayne Ulbrich of East Palestine, Danielle and Robert Harrell of Youngstown, Daccine Benson of Youngstown and Drew and Carol Benson of Macedonia. Gordon’s prior employment includes General Fireproofing in Youngstown, Ohio, May Company of Cleveland , Ohio and Austin Company of Cleveland, and Costigans in Akron, Ohio, retiring in 2000.

Gordon is survived by his sister, Shirley and Clair Fletcher of Jamestown, NY, 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 nephews, 1 great nephew, and 1 great niece.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff of 5 West, Pebble Creek Palliative Care and Summa Health Systems Hospital and Hospice for the love, care and support they gave Gordon. A special thank you to Gordon’s friend, Terry. The family requests in lieu of material tributes to take the form of contributions to the Cleveland Museum of Art or Akron Museum of Art.

Arrangements are being handled by Heritage Cremation Society of Louisville, Ohio. Gordon will be put to rest at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Jamestown, NY.
