Henry passed away February 4
th
, after a long battle with CLL. He was a fighter and attacked each new thing with “It’s Not My Time Yet”. He was born in Akron, Ohio to Hilda (Rabel) and Henry J Knapp. He was a lifelong Akron resident and worked for and retired from Ohio Bell after 30 years in 1999. He also served in the US Navy from 1966-1968. After retirement, he continued to work for ICG for a few years and then worked at Home Depot to pass the time in retirement.
In 1966 he married the love of his life Linda, and they remained married for 47 years until her passing in 2013. Along the way they had 4 children: Henry Thomas, Lori, Vicki and Doreene.
All those that knew him , loved his laugh and infectious smile. He loved Hawaiian Shirts, Bahama Mama’s, watching the Military Channel, and his family.
Henry especially loved traveling and having fun. His dream trip was to Dublin, Ireland which he was able to take in 2017 with his daughter Vicki and son-in-law Marc. He loved traveling to many different places whether it was Hawaii, New Orleans or throughout the Caribbean on a cruise. He also loved sharing those adventures with others, whether it be family, or friends old and new.
Another passion for Henry and Linda was the metaphysical world, where they made many lifelong friends. In 2009, they started Seek The Light Expo Akron which continues to the day.
Everyone knows he loved to throw a “New Orleans” shrimp boil to bring together all his friends and family. Fortunately he was able to hold one in 2021 to bring together everyone for a fun afternoon and to pass the torch along to Marc and Lacey.
These were the some of his most cherished memories, of bringing friends and family together for memorable occasions.
He was preceeded in death by his wife Linda, son Henry Thomas, parents Henry and Hilda, and sister MaryLou.
He is survived by his daughters Lori (Lacey) Carrico, Vicki (Marc) Rumbaugh and Doreene Knapp, siblings Patty (Dave) Broyles and Rose Martin, grandchildren Constance, Sabrina, Ryan and Autumn, great-grandchildren Aria, Aoife, Rhoswen, Amethyst and Nile, and grandpuppies Gemma and Dakota. Along with the many family and friends who loved him and will miss him.
A Celebration of Life is planned for June 5, 2022. Mark your calendars, get out your Hawaiian shirts, and join us to have a pint of Guinness in honor of Henry. More details will follow.
