Ivan Meszaros

IVAN MESZAROS

vitéz Mészáros Iván

was born on January 9, 1926, in Budapest, Hungary, and passed away—at the age of 96—on April 12, 2022.

Beloved husband of Susanne C. Meszaros, dear and loving father of Elizabeth (Thomas Gotzy), Christine Metsch (Raymond), Esther (deceased) and George (Maureen). Cherished grandfather of Michael, Nicholas (Allison), and Madeline Metsch (Luke Slager), and Thomas and Zachary O’Neill.

Ivan spent most of his early life in the military, enrolling in military school in Sopron at the age of 10, was commissioned to second lieutenant at the age of 19, and spent 2 years in POW camp at the end of WWII. He immigrated to the United States in 1956 during the Hungarian Revolution and joined his family in Cleveland, where he met his wife, Susanne.

A civil engineer by training in Hungary, Ivan parlayed his experience and became an associate at Woodruff, Inc. After leaving Woodruff, he worked as a consultant, and did not retire until he was 80 years old.

Ivan will be remembered for his experimental cooking, his krumpli nudli, his love of gardening, and his rapier wit, as well as his bamboo patch, which will survive a nuclear holocaust. He will also be remembered for his devotion to his family, his delight in his grandchildren, and his incredible sense of humor. No funeral or memorial service is immediately planned. The family will notify loved ones in the future when a service is scheduled. Go in peace, Dad. We love you.
