Jerry Bican

Jerry Bican passed away unexpectedly at his home in Brooklyn, Ohio on October 27. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Yaro and Stella Bican, whom he deeply loved and respected and whose outstanding example served him well all his life.

A graduate of West Technical High School, Jerry became an accomplished engineer, beginning his career at the Warner & Swasey Company. Prior to that, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for over two years in the Philippines as part of the United States Army Security Agency. He also spent a large part of his career at the Nordson Corporation. It was during these years that he committed himself to earning an engineering degree by attending night school.

Jerry was a loyal friend and an independent thinker. He often enjoyed engaging his friends in profound conversations in order that together, the two of them might endeavor to “solve the problems of the world”.

All who knew Jerry knew well that one of his great passions was a love of sports cars and auto racing. His enthusiasm for both was contagious.

He was a man of high character and integrity who never compromised his principles. Though proud of his Czech heritage, he had a fierce love for America and often spoke with passion and gratitude about the blessings of liberty. He was a true American patriot.

Jerry will forever be remembered by those closest to him as a man who traveled the high road. He lived his life on his own terms and proudly did it “his way”. He was a free man – and free he will forever be. May he rest in peace.
