On the morning of October 12, 2023, Jo Ann (Thomas) McFall passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer with her son by her side. Jo was 81 years old.
Jo was born in Marion, Ohio to James and Annetta Thomas on June 24, 1942. She grew up in Marion and after graduation she attended college in Buffalo, New York studying music. She moved to Youngstown with her family and graduated from Youngstown State University with a bachelor’s degree.
She met and married the love of her life, Paul McFall, and shortly after moved to Sheffield Lake and raised two children Patty and Jim. She was employed with the Sheffield-Sheffield Lake City School for many years as a Librarian, Substitute teacher, and Aid. Over the years she was very active in the community with groups such as the Jaycees, Friends & Neighbors, Community Civic Council (Community Days Festival). She was an active member within the United Church of Christ of Sheffield Lake.
She had always enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling in the RV with Paul. She continued the RV’ing tradition with her son and his family until these last few months. She also enjoyed quilting and playing cards on Friday nights with her friends.
Jo was preceded in death by her father James, her mother Annetta, and her husband Paul. She is survived by her sister Patricia (Jim) Trautman, Neice Paula and Nephew William. Children Patty (Stacy) Harley, James (Amy) McFall. Stepchildren, Grandchildren Nathan Washburn, Alex (Renee) Washburn, Elizabeth Jones, Brayden McFall and three great grandchildren.
An informal celebration of life will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2023, between 3pm-6pm at the Joyce Hanks Community Center 4574 E. Lake Rd, Sheffield Lake, OH 44054
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one of Jo’s favorite charities, the Friendship Animal Protective League of Lorain County.
