In Honor of Joan Gwendolyn Flory September 8, 1935 – March 27, 2023
Joan Flory passed away Monday morning surrounded by friends and family. She is survived by her loving daughters, Robin Weidner, and Kristina Edleman. She loved so dearly her four grandchildren, Tyler Weidner, Jack Weidner, Merrill Edleman, and Clara Edleman.
Anyone that met Joan would most definitely speak of her kind spirit and infectious smile. She was always eager to share stories of her life on the farm in Minnesota, or her travels abroad as a teacher. The stories were best shared with loved ones, at a table with hot cups of coffee. Joan liked to be known as a quilter and seamstress. She artistically created hundreds of quilts. It gave her much pleasure to collect and be surrounded by beautiful fabrics that she could then orchestrate into her quilted masterpieces. Although she sold them she quite often gave her creations away as gifts with an eager heart. Joan was an animal lover and cat lover most particularly. She took in and loved many stray cats over the years. We used to joke that if a cat was homeless it would find its way to Joan’s doorstep where there would be food, love, and affection waiting for any lost kitty. Joan was a widow for nearly 36 years, and although our hearts are breaking with her passing, it brings us such peace to know that she is finally reunited with the love of her life, Tensard William Flory.
Our family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and support during this difficult time. Private services will be held in her hometown of Peninsula, Ohio this weekend. Donations can be made to Cleveland Animal Protective League, in lieu of flowers. Condolences and special memories of Joan can be shared with her family online at www.heritagecremationsociety.com
