Joan Doris (Ballard) Shepler, 84, of Wadsworth, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025. Born in Sandusky, Ohio on August 12, 1940, to Franklyn and Doris Ballard, Joan grew up on her grandparents' peach farm located on Catawba Island, Ohio overlooking Lake Erie.
A 1958 graduate of Port Clinton High School, Joan's passion for family and community was evident throughout her life. She met the love of her life, Curtis W. Shepler Jr., on Valentine's Day 1960, and they were married three months later on May 14th. Together, they raised two children, Jennie and Curt. They also enjoyed camping trips across the country, visiting 43 of the 50 states and Canada.
Joan's dedication to family extended beyond her immediate circle. She was a beloved teachers' aide at school, nurturing young minds with kindness and enthusiasm. Joan and Curtis were deeply committed to scouting, sharing a passion for developing young boys into responsible and well-rounded young men by instilling important values like honesty, loyalty, and dedication. Her home was always open, and our garden provided an abundance of fresh produce for her family and neighbors.
Joan was known for her sweet spirit and her incredible baking skills, particularly her pies. She enjoyed listening to oldies music and cherished spending time with her loved ones.
Joan is survived by her children, Jennie (Greg) Armour and Curt (Karen) Shepler; her grandchildren, Jon (Michelle) Armour, Ben (Zoe) Armour, Justin (Micah) Shepler, and Kayla Shepler (Jared Huebner); and her great-grandchildren, Franklyn Armour, Karson Shepler, Wrennley Shepler and soon Stella Heubner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis W. Shepler Jr.; her parents, Franklyn and Doris (Steffens) Ballard; and her in-laws, Curtis and Florence (Brown) Shepler.
A celebration of life for family and close friends will be held on Saturday, May 3rd on Catawba Island.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, FreshWater Church in Wadsworth, Ohio, or Cornerstone Church in West Chester, Ohio.
Joan will be remembered for her loving heart, her infectious laughter, and her enduring spirit. Condolences and special memories of Joan can be shared with her family online at www.heritagecremationsociety.com.
