John B. Amantea

October 31, 1941 — March 30, 2025

Cleveland

After a life well lived, John B. Amantea peacefully passed away on March 30, 2025 leaving behind his beloved son and family. Born in Indiana, Pennsylvania on October 31, 1941. He was 83 years old when he died.

Loving father of John Amantea (Marilyn). Grandfather of Dominic and Amanda. Son of the late Antonio and Lena (nee Leis) Amantea. Preceded in death by Irene Furgiuele, Dolly Speziale, Lucy Cavallaro, Ann Cavallaro, Josephine Guido, Joe and Mike Amantea and Carmella "Carmen" DiCicco. He is survived by Eva Kachline. Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

John married his high-school sweetheart Joyce Antal on July 4, 1964. After a tour of duty with the Army in Vietnam in 1967 and 1968, John welcomed his only son John and built a house in Brook Park. John enjoyed working for Forest City Enterprises for many years before working at the General Motors Fisher Body plant in Euclid. He made many friends during his time there and he worked there until the plant closed in 1993. After taking an early retirement, John enjoyed keeping his yard as pristine as possible. He enjoyed taking bus trips with Florence Antal to the casino where he only played the slot machines. Once his first grandson Dominic was born, he enjoyed watching him grow up into the compelling young man he is today. From wrestling to baseball to soccer, Grandpa never wanted to miss a game. Then when Dominic discovered his love of cars, that made everything complete. Once his first granddaughter Amanda was born, he got to enjoy the finer things of the “art” life. He went to so many plays and dance performances, and he seemed to enjoy them. He especially loved going to Tower City to watch Amanda perform with the Toy Soldier during the Christmas season. Seeing Amanda excel in her school studies made him very proud. Being a major part of his grandchildren’s lives was very important to him; it was something he truly cherished. After being diagnosed with vascular dementia in October of 2022, his life changed. Unable to care for himself, he moved into a memory care facility in Brooklyn where he lived out the rest of his life. He was able to enjoy going out for breakfast with his family one last time on March 15, 2025, he sure liked his bacon and eggs. It seemed like he was now at peace, and his life declined quickly after that.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to Miracle City Hospice, 9150 S Hills Blvd Suite 100 Broadview Hts., OH 44147.
