Mr. John Montgomery Whatmough age 88 of Akron, Ohio passed away late Monday evening, February 3, 2025 at St. Luke Lutheran Community Assisted Living Facility. He was born August 3, 1936 in Summit County. John served in the United States Navy and United States Air Force Reserve at Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna, Ohio. He worked at McNeil Machine as a Tool Crib Attendant and retired from B.F. Goodrich Tire Company as a Data Center Operator. John was an avid pilot with over 1,000 hours of certified flights. He enjoyed long rides on his vintage Harley-Davidson motorcycle and was a member of the National Rifle Association.

John was preceded in death by his loving parents, Walter C. (Ruth) Whatmough Sr., and his sister, Diane (Whatmough) Starcher.

He leaves behind his brother, Walter C. (Mercedes) Whatmough; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. 

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Lukes Lutheran Community Assisted Living Facility and Elara Caring Hospice Service. A private family burial will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, Akron and a celebration of life event will take place this spring. Donations may be made in John’s honor to hospice at www.ohiohospice.org.
