Joseph Bates

Joseph Robert Bates, 77, of Canton, formally of East Liverpool, passed away Monday, November 13th, 2023 at Glenwood Nursing and Rehab. Born in East Liverpool, Ohio on April 18th, 1946, he was the son of the late Ernest and Alberta Cunningham Bates. Joe worked as a police officer in East Liverpool as well as a security officer for Republic and LTV Steel in Massillon and Canton.  He enjoyed collecting stamps and held a FCC amateur radio license.

Joe was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Alyson Kait Bates.

Survivors include his son, Donald (Kathi) Bates of Dalton, Ohio and daughter, Leigh Ann (Shane) Sterner of Wooster, Ohio; his grandchildren, Megan Bates, Jessica (Taylor) Bates Berry, Christopher (Ashley) Sterner and Alexander Sterner; his great-grandchildren, Nolan, Dominick, Gigi, and Charlee Berry,  Sophia, Samuel, Shane and Sylvia Sterner.
