th
, 2023, the O’Grady and Basch families lost a bright light. A dear mother, grandmother, daughter, and beloved sister, Judith Ann O’Grady (nee Basch), originally from Bay Village (born in Cleveland), Ohio, is finally resting in the arms of our Lord in heavenly peace. Judy is preceded in death by her beloved infant daughter, Megan, her parents Eugene and Mary Anne Basch, and brother, James Basch. She is survived by her children Michele Hendry (Joe), Kelly O’Grady-Farmer (Gregory), Thomas O’Grady Jr. (Trisha), Jennifer O’Grady (Marvin) and Timothy O’Grady (Erika), her 15 grandchildren, and siblings Jane Patton, Jacqueline Stanway (Eric), Mary Jo Paulozzi, Jeanne Smith (Don-deceased), John Basch, Jeff Basch (Arlene-deceased), Joe Basch (Jennifer), and Maria Sobota (Richard). Judy was the loving aunt of 25 (including Jason Basch and Sean Basch – deceased) and a great-aunt of many.
To Judy’s children who she always spoke of so lovingly, we wish you peace and we grieve with you. To our extended family, including too many aunts, uncles, and cousins to count, we thank you for your kindness throughout the years as we supported and loved Judy. The stories we are hearing about what made Judy so special will help us keep her memory alive.
At her high school alma mater, St. Joseph Academy in Rocky River Ohio (Class of 1965), Judy was known as the social butterfly. Her smile and ability to light up a room never ceased. As the oldest of ten children, Judy taught her brothers and sisters that even in the depths of her own suffering and despair, she thought more of others by calling and saying “I love you” when they needed to hear it the most. She loved sweets, especially chocolate chip cookies. We also know she would give her last dollar or possession to anyone she thought was in need. Cousins have shared memories of her making curtains, changing them regularly and giving the “old” ones away. Most of all she will be remembered for her deep love for her family, especially her children, and her unending desire to make a loving and warm home. Her children remember her favorite prayer, “Angel of God love your children for eternity”. It is now time for Judy to rest comfortably in the loving arms of Jesus Christ for eternity, her true blessing is finally upon her. We love you very much and take comfort knowing you are safe, free from pain, and beautiful again. A memorial mass and interment at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery will be held in early Spring. Judy will rest in final peace with her mother and father. The family will be notified in advance of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that a donation be made to The City Mission identifying Laura’s Home Women’s Crisis Center in the “Preferred Designation for Donation” section in honor of Judy O’Grady. The donation can be made at
