Kathleen Ann Sibbio, better known as Kathy, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2023, surrounded by those whom she loved.
She was born on March 13, 1944, to Beatrice and Donald Hedges. She grew up in Akron, Ohio with her siblings Donald Hedges (Donelda) and Sherri Koza (John). In her early years, she met a boy who lived down the street named Daniel Sibbio. They fell head over heels for each other and the rest is history. Together they had four “darling” boys- Steve (Lisa), Todd, Mike (Christine), and Craig (Kimberly). They also were blessed with Amy Hendricks (Steve and adorable baby Stevie), who was the daughter she never had. She lived a life that was truly “exquisite” and full of so much love.
On any given day, Kathy could be found hanging out by the pool, watching the Hallmark channel, or spending time with her girlfriends. She always seemed to show extra love for her grandbabies- Leah (JD), Katie, Lexie, Brandon, Oriana, Ian, Lynnea (Shane), Dominic (Kara), Ryan, Maria, and Craig Jr. Kathy was delighted to meet her first great-grandchild, Dominic Jr. She cherished her time with her numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her devotion to the people she cared about showed through her monthly club with her lifelong friends— Sandy, Ruth Ann, Gloria, Phyllis, Mary Beth, and Anita- also known as Club ’63.
As the “divine” matriarch, family gatherings were her favorite place to be. Most of all she loved Thanksgiving and Sunday Dinner.
Whether it be her kind demeanor, raunchy sense of humor, or relatable discourse; Kathy had a way of helping others let down their defenses. She truly never knew a stranger and was a friend to all.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 15, 2023, at St. Francis De Sales Parish located at 4019 Manchester Rd, Akron, OH 44319.
There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to: The Sharon Koza Family Memorial Scholarship, The University of Akron Foundation, Akron, Ohio 44325-2603.
