Laurence Basler, 74, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on September 5, 2022, surrounded by family and friends.
He is survived by wife, Barbara; sons, Brian (Sandra) and Brandon (Caitlin); and daughter, Kimberly (Taber Oberheu); grandsons, Austen, Ethan (Krysta), Ryan (Mallory) and Weston Oberheu and brother, Richard Basler (Sarah – deceased). Larry would have been a great-grandfather for the first time in January 2023.
He was born and raised in Sylvania, OH to the late Richard and Donelda Basler. Larry graduated from Sylvania High School and spent most of his career with Citgo Petroleum as a terminal manager. He and wife Barb moved to Bay City, Michigan in 1993 and then settled in Akron, OH in 1998, retiring from Citgo in 2009.
Many people gauge their successes according to their career promotions, house or fancy cars. But to Larry, his successes and accomplishments were his 53-year marriage to Barb and his beloved children and grandchildren.
He enjoyed reading, fishing, golf and hiking and especially treasured his annual trip with family to Holden Beach, North Carolina. His family will always remember the endless pots of coffee he would make for everyone and the early morning walks and talks on the beach.
While living in Toledo, Larry never had a favorite football team, but after moving to Akron he became a true Cleveland Browns fan. He looked forward to football season every year because it meant putting on his jersey and spending time watching the games with his family.
The memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 18 at 4 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on 1090 N. Cleveland Massillon Rd., Akron, OH 44333. Condolences and fond memories of Larry can be shared with his family online at
