Martha Ann “Marty” McCullough, formerly of Boyne City, MI, passed away peacefully on June 3. She was 77. She was born on May 25, 1943, in Van Wert, Ohio the daughter of the late Russell C. and Margaret L. (Mohler) Wells. A love of horses led her to Mackinac Island, where she worked as a summer waitress while attending Ohio State University. From her years on the island, Marty fell in love with Northern Michigan.
Marty taught math for 32 years, mostly at Boyne City Middle School. She also taught in Howell and Roseville, and coached track, cheerleading and ski team. Upon retiring from teaching, Marty took on a second career as a real estate agent. Her love of the north and her joy in helping people find their own slice of paradise, made her an enthusiastic and successful agent.
Marty loved to entertain, and her party food was legendary. She enjoyed baking for family and friends, and the pies she would deliver to clients who purchased property from her, are likely the reason she was so successful. Most of all, Marty loved her family. She brought magic and joy to building a life with her husband Bob and children Julia, Nancy, and Bob as well as a notable lineup of dogs, cats, and horses. In retirement, she enjoyed doting on her grandkids, traveling, volunteering, golfing, skiing, gardening, and generally just spending time at her home on Lake Michigan.
Marty was preceded in death by her loving husband Bob; daughter, Julia; brother, John R. Wells; sisters, Joan Packer and Mary Wells; and nephew, Steven Wells.
