Mary D. Thompson

Mary D. Thompson (Polly) passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024. She was born on October 1, 1934, to George and Lillian (Carter) Dickinson in Library, PA. Other than a short time spent in Finleyville, PA with family after the loss of her father at just eight years old, she lived with her mother and brother Arnold during her school years in Meadville, PA and graduated from Meadville High School. After graduation, they moved back to the Finleyville area and Polly began working at US Steel in downtown Pittsburgh.

She attended Gastonville United Methodist Church where she met and married Noah A. Thompson (Sonny) in April 1964. After a move to Akron and then Massillon, Ohio she spent her time making a home for her family and raising her two daughters, April and Tracey.

She loved reading books, the paper and doing the daily crossword puzzle. She spent many hours volunteering at McDonaldsville United Methodist and Central Presbyterian Churches in women’s groups, Bible studies, baking for bake sales, helping with dinners, Bible school and Sunday school.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Arnold and her beloved “Sonny” in 2011. She will be greatly missed by her daughters, April Merritt (Jim) and Tracey Webb (Tim), her grandchildren Lily Merritt (Jordan), Joel Merritt (Audrey), Katie Webb, Ryan Webb (Jasmine), and Riley Webb, and two great granddaughters, Madeline and Eloise Merritt, sister-in-law Barb Dickinson, nieces, nephews, and many special friends and neighbors, old and new.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, January 25th at 11 AM at the J. D. Define Building 202 Market Street Navarre, Ohio 44662
