PORTAGE LAKES OH – A lifelong Akron native, Melody, 58, passed suddenly on Wednesday, December 20, 2017.
An alumnus of Central-Hower and University of Akron, she was an IT specialist employed with the Chesterfield Companies.
Preceded in death by grandparents Harry & Hazel Willener, father William H Mallory; stepfather Jerry Sponseller.
Survived and grieved by mother Patricia Sponseller, husband Lowell Thomas Mundy, daughters Rachel & Amanda Blomerley, son-in-law Dylan Papp, stepson Kevin Mundy, siblings April Curry & Jerry Sponseller; nieces Andrea Curry, Ann & Katherine Sponseller.
A remembrance and celebration of her life will be observed on Sunday, January 28 at 4 PM. Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron, 3300 Morewood Rd, Fairlawn OH. Rev Tim Timerson, presiding.
An avid organic gardener, she again looked forward to expanding her herb and vegetable beds, and increasing the fruit orchard. Friends, neighbors, and local squirrels would eagerly await the coming harvest, especially her peaches and strawberries. This season, in her memory, plant something that brings you joy, and share the gift that comes from a green thumb.
Mel also looked forward to the Salvation Army urban farming program, expressing her desire to be involved with the nascent project taking root at the SA’s Romig Rd facility:
