Myrtle Marie Omoka (Rothwell) 77, passed away peacefully on October 15th 2024. She was born on October 10th, 1947 to the late Harry and Laura Jane Rothwell. She was a 1965 graduate of Marlington High School and a graduate of Kent State University. She moved to Kenya, East Africa in 1981 to raise her family after marrying the late Wanakayi Omoka. She worked as an administrative assistant at Wilson Airport and the Japanese Embassy before returning to the states in 1999.
She had a very kind, gentle and giving heart. She opened up her home to multiple nieces and nephews, caring for them as her own children, helping them get their education or secure decent jobs. She had a passion and talent for cross-stitching, loved reading and especially enjoyed science fiction and horror books, she loved animals and would have adopted every stray cat and dog if she could! She absolutely loved Pepsi and believed that a can of Pepsi was the answer to any problem!
She was definitely a fighter surprising her family several times with her resilience. After suffering a devastating stroke in 2002, her family prepared to say goodbye, however she pulled through, learning how to walk and talk again. In May 2021 and Jan 2023, she was found unresponsive and her family prepared to say goodbye but once again, she pulled through both times. Each time her body got weaker and eventually Alzhimer’s took over. She passed away peacefully, after enjoying a can of …. you guessed it, Pepsi and laying down for an afternoon nap.
She is survived by her son, Waswa (Vanessa) Omoka, daughter, Nasike (Wesley) Carpenter, four beautiful grandchildren, Natalya Carpenter, Alyssa Carpenter, April Omoka and Joshua Omoka, her sister, Sharon Lemon and multiple nieces and nephews.
