Nancy Verdel French

May 19, 1953 – August 13, 2023

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Nancy Verdel French, 70, formerly of Galesburg and Paris, Illinois, who passed into eternal life on August 13, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Delwin and Verda (Slane) French. She is survived by her older, dedicated brother, Paul French, of Galesburg; and her loving and devoted sons, Brent (Heather) Ormiston and their two children, Brayden, and Madelyn, of Bloomington, Indiana; and Bryce (Annie) Ormiston of Fairview Park, Ohio, and their seven children, Brendan, Brian, Evelyn, Collin, Sean, Gavin, and Caitrin.

Nancy was born in Galesburg, Illinois on May 19, 1953. Growing up, she cherished summers spent at Lake Bracken. While attending Galesburg High School, she was active in the Streakettes acrobatics club, a member of the A Capella Choir, and a Varsity Cheerleader. She attended Illinois State University where she was a troupe member of the Gamma Phi Circus gymnastics fraternity, the nation’s oldest collegiate circus, and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She had a profound passion for educating her students as well as her own children. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and had a great interest in genealogy. Nancy found immense joy in treasure hunting, particularly for her nine grandchildren. Her sons fondly remember their shared love of conversation over a cold iced tea, family camping trips, her encouragement to try new things, and support in whatever interests they pursued.
