Nina Lou Roberts 1929 – 2022
Nina Roberts died peacefully at her home in Portage Lakes on Friday,
August 26th at the age of 92.
Nina was born in Peru, Indiana, to Earl Lemuel Foy and Mary Esther
Lesher Foy. She graduated Peru High School in 1947. Nina married her
high school sweetheart, Lewis Roberts, in 1948 while studying at Indiana
University. The love of her life, they were married nearly 70 years.
Nina loved gardening, wildflowers, sailing the Great Lakes, and traveling,
visiting art museums, national parks and family. She was an active sailor at
South Shore Yacht Club and the National One Design Racing Association.
She crewed in and won sailboat races as recently as last summer.
Her cheerful, kind and gracious manner was an example to us all. She
taught us to appreciate the arts, a day at the beach, and how to explore
while traveling. She knew how to class up a dinner by pulling out silver
candlesticks, even if we were camping in the Mojave Desert or at anchor in
the North Channel in Lake Huron.
Volunteering was an important part of her life, and she gave many hours to
the Food Pantry at First Presbyterian Church, Weathervane Playhouse
Women’s Board, Coventry Band Parents and Cub Scouts.
She left us with a published book full of loving stories for her grandchildren,
a gallery of her original paintings, her memoirs, and a lifetime of genealogy
research.
She will be dearly missed by sons Lewis Eric (Elaine) Roberts, and Mark
Earl (Gail) Roberts; grandchildren Lewie, Megan, Rachel, and Kenny
Roberts.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, September 11, at 2:30
PM at First Congregational Church, 292 E. Market Street, Akron. In lieu of
flowers, contributions may be made to First Congregational Church of
Akron’s Feeding Hope Food Pantry.
