Norman E. Darkow, 77, went home to be with the Lord on May 2, 2023 at Sprenger Health Care Rose Lane Alzheimer/Dementia Care unit with his family by his side.  Harmony Cares Hospice had been helping with his care, and we’d especially like to thank them for the time and compassion given to Norm during the last 5 months.

He was born on December 30, 1945 to Clarence and Betty Darkow in Akron, Ohio. Norm was the youngest of six children, and family was important to him.  He was drafted into the Army in 1965 and served in Vietnam. After his service, he studied at The University of Akron becoming a Mechanical Engineer and worked for a private firm in Akron.  He worked there until his retirement in 2014.  If he wasn’t devoting his time to his grandchildren, petting his dogs, nose deep in a good book, or at the Canton McKinley gun range…You’d likely find him on a golf course or traveling back and forth to Texas.

Norm is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia (Gabby) of 45 years. He raised her two children as his own, Jeffrey (Leigh Ann) Jones and Kristin (David) Kamerer; grandchildren, Morgan and Logan LaTampa and great-granddaughter, Kynzleigh LaTampa.

He was a quiet man who never had a bad thing to say about anyone or anything.  He was the type of man that would give you the shirt off his back if you needed or just wanted it.  When he became a grandfather, he became the best Papa he could be!!

He is survived by siblings, David (Karen) Darkow and Virginia (Fred) Hunt. As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Earl McQuillan; sisters, Dorothy Brand and Elsie Davis.

He was a simple man and wouldn’t want a fuss to be made of him.  So, we are honoring him by having a brief grave-side service.  If you have a memory of Norm to share, please do at www.heritagecremationsociety.com  He will forever be in our hearts-

Graveside service with Honors will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on May 19, 2023 at 9am.
