It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Raymond Holt on March 26, 2024, following a rapid decline in his health. Born on February 13, 1930, in Portsmouth, Ohio, Raymond was a remarkable man of 94 years who touched many lives.
Raymond's memory will be cherished by the love of his life Darla Holt (Craig), his nephews Michael (Sean) and James (Gus) Craig. Survived by his brothers Bob and Jack, sister Patricia Cernan. Numerous nephews and nieces. He also leaves behind two beloved cats, Cleo and Zoee. Countless friends and extended family members whose lives were enriched by knowing Raymond and we will remember him fondly. He was preceded in death by his parents; Raymond and Ethel Holt (Fields), sons Jeff and Nick, as well as eight siblings.
In 1972 Raymond's life took an amazing turn when he met the love of his life Darla in Brook Park, Ohio. After reuniting a year later, in 1973, their love story unfolded like an epic tale written for each other. If asked if he would spend the rest of his life with Darla without any hesitation he would affirm "hell yeah!"
A Korean War Veteran who enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps, Raymond served with honor before retiring as a sergeant. His respect for hard work led him to become a lifelong Union supporter and he spent a significant part of his life as a truck driver for various companies including Erie Pitt, Mushroom, and Churchill. Despite the demands of his profession, Raymond's heart remained steadfastly anchored to his beloved wife.
A man fond of games both big and small, Raymond often found time for fun-filled gambling escapades to Las Vegas or Atlantic City. Back at home during weekends or holidays, one could always expect a lively game of poker to break out at the family card table. These moments were not just about cards on a table; they were cherished times when laughter echoed, stories were shared, and memories were created – all of which became an integral part of his enduring legacy.
His devotion to Darla was unparalleled – they were soulmates sharing 51 years together that can only be described as extraordinary love story that stood the test of time. His earthly presence may no longer be among us but his memory lives on in our hearts -- especially Darla’s whose heart will forever beat with memories of their shared love story.
As we bid farewell to this remarkable man - our Vegas king - we imagine him finding eternal joy in heavenly games: "Though tables stand silent, and lights may dim — His spirit roams where fortunes brim." We will miss you dearly Raymond but your spirit lives on within us all.
In accordance with Raymond’s wishes there will be no formal service, we ask everyone to respect the privacy wished by the family during this time.
