Richard “Dick” Hugh Nelson was born June 1, 1938 in Cameron, West Viriginia to Lillian and Hugh Nelson. After a long and blessed life, he passed away September 6, 2024 in the comfort of his home. 

Dick moved to Ohio and graduated from East Canton High School. His desire to travel and served his country led him to the Marines, where he serve from 1956-1962. Once he left the service, he found employment at Jones and Laughlin Steel Co., in Louisville, Ohio. 

In January of 1993, Dick married MaryAnn Haas. Dick and MaryAnn shared a beautiful marriage of 32 years where they were a living example to their family of love and putting family first. Dick enjoyed sharing his passions for basketball, golf, hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren, creating memories that will forever live on. 

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, MaryAnn Nelson; brothers and sister, Nila Sutherland, Gary Nelson and Bill Nelson; and grandson, Russell Haas.

Dick is survived by Shawn (Amy) Nelson, Rita (Ron) Rice, John (Twila) Haas, Beth (Steve) Spradling, Joe (Lori) Haas; his ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. 

He will be missed by all who knew him, and his legacy of love of family and kindness continued to be passed along by the grandchildren who adored him. 

Calling hours for Dick will be held at Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home in Louisville, Ohio on Saturday, September 14 from 3:00-4:00pm with the memorial service to follow at 4:00pm.
