Robert “Bobby” Lee Hammons

Robert “Bobby” Lee Hammons, 71, of Newcomerstown left this earth for Heaven on January 9, 2021 following a brief illness.  He was born on July 3, 1949 in London, Ohio to the late Evelyn Tidrick Watson and Raymond Hammons. Robert attended Newcomerstown Schools until he entered the workforce. Throughout his life, he was employed by Simonds File Company, Accurate Products, and Tastee Apple, Inc. until his health required him to retire.

Robert enjoyed building CB antennas and talking with his many friends on his CB radios in which his handle was “Muskrat.” He enjoyed listening to his police scanner daily, fishing, watching game shows, and never missed an episode of the Three Stooges. He was an avid WWE wrestling fan and would test his luck every chance he had with scratch off lottery tickets. Robert enjoyed bluegrass and classic country music. He had a friendly loving soul and never knew a stranger. He was a devoted father, loving husband and adored spending time with his two grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth (Karen) Hammons, Calvin (Dorothy) Tedrick; and sister Loretta Cramlet.

Robert is survived by the love of his life and wife of 46 years, Shirley, whom he married on February 15, 1974; his children, Bobbie Jo (Mike), Delbert (Marteina), and Nicole (James); grandchildren, Hailie Jo and Carter; sisters, Mary (Mike) Hart and Marilyn Smith of Newcomerstown, Cathy Hammons Little of Peoria, Arizona; uncle, Melvin (Bonnie) Tidrick of Newcomerstown who was like a brother to him; numerous nieces and nephews; and his feline friend, Curly.

In keeping with Robert’s wishes, public services will not be scheduled. A Celebration of Life memorial will be planned for a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Roberts’s memory to Community Hospice located at 716 Commercial Avenue SW in New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663 or a charity of donor’s choice.
