Ronald Jerome Hornsby age 82 of Ravenna, OH passed away peacefully on February 8, 2017. Born January 30, 1935, in Shady Side, PA, to Ted and Anna (Lescar) Hornsby. Ron grew up in York Run, PA. While attending Georges High School, Ron developed an early talent for woodworking and carpentry, and built his parents’ home. Ron married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Catherine Angell, in 1957. Ron and Mary moved to northeast Ohio where he worked 30 years for General Motors and raised their six children. Ron enjoyed many hobbies with his family and friends including fishing, camping, boating, and always a good game of horseshoes. His passion was woodworking, creating many memorable projects over his lifetime.
He will be missed and always loved by his wife Mary Kay and children Ron Jr. (Janet) of Newmarket NH, David of Kent, OH, Janice (Scott Swan) of Kent, OH, Tim (Corky) of Ravenna, OH, and Tom (Tina) of Ravenna, OH; his grandchildren, Jenna, Jared, Samantha, Nate, Drake, Anna, Shane, Jace, and Allen; sister Lilian Barish (Ken) of McMurray, PA, and brother in laws, Rudy Angell (Ken) of Dunbar, PA and Ray Angell (Pat) of Twinsburg, OH, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his grandson Ranjan, and his beloved son, Ted.
A Celebration of Life, officiated by Pastor Dan, will be held on February 18, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 170 N. Freedom Street in Ravenna. Visitation at 11:00 a.m. and Service at noon. The family thanks the UHPMC Comfort Care unit and Grace Hospice for their support. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Comfort Care Unit at University Hospital Portage Medical Center, 6847 N Chestnut St., Ravenna, OH 44266.
Ron was a dreamer and builder who brought many happy memories to those he loved.
