Russell F Herbruck “Big Bear” (88) passed away on July 22, 2022 after multiple long illnesses. Big Bear was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mabel; brothers Fred (Virginia) and Don (Gerri); and sister Nancy Turner. He is survived by his sister Patricia Roman and 3 generations of nieces and nephews. He was a Korean War Veteran (awarded a Purple Heart) and a 29 year Fireman for the City of Akron. After a career of putting out fires, Big Bear spent much of his 35 year retirement building and manning family bon-fires. He made the best beef-barley soup and always helped with food on the fire pit. Throughout life, Big Bear was always there to help his family and friends. Out of the kindness of his heart, he helped build garages, remodel/paint houses, move, with gardening, with vehicle purchases, and fill in for self-employed family members. A life-time Mogadore Moose and Mogadore VFW member, he spent many years cooking at the fish fries, managing/playing softball, and was an avid golfer. At his request, there will be a private graveside gathering at a future date with military honors and AARFW last alarm. The family would like to thank some special people during his care: Patsy, Michelle LPN, Lynnet, Megan RN, Elara Hospice, Dr Krebs, Scott RN, Stacy LPN, and Summa Health Systems.
