Selma Conrad

February 26, 1927 — November 29, 2024

Selma (mom) passed peacefully to her heavenly home on November 29,2024 while at the Ames Hospice House at the age of” almost 98”, which is how she would say it.

She was born on February 26,1927 to Anna (nee Nadler) and Jack Stahl in Youngstown, Ohio. After graduating from Warren City Hospital as an R.N. in 1947, she would work at Akron City, Charity in New Orleans and Vanderbilt in Nashville until she met my father, Joseph Stockstill. They made their home in Sheffield Lake where they raised their two daughters, Debbie and Jane. The Stockstill’s were a host family in 1966 to Sissi Lesanovsky, an A.F.S. exchange student from Austria. Mom was the neighborhood Avon Lady and homemaker.

Years later, mom relocated to Avon with her husband, John Conrad. They enjoyed building a home together in their years of retirement, which allowed them to spend time gardening, working on landscaping and enjoying their beautiful backyard filled with nature. They also enjoyed taking car trips, exploring many interesting places in the states.

Mom was a woman full of life as she liked to try new things whether it was a new restaurant, place to visit, or a recipe. She appreciated music and recently loved being a season ticket holder with a front row seat at the Cleveland Pops Concerts. She was a huge football fan and loved her Browns. She enjoyed having season tickets for several seasons too! Other things mom appreciated was time by Lake Erie, especially at sunset, chocolates, her dogs, as she never had a time when she did not have a furry companion with her, Jazzercise at the Old Fire Station, and her trip to Austria to visit Sissi in the 90’s. Most of all, mom loved spending time with her family.

Mom is survived by her daughter, Jane(William ) Penkava, Son in-law Timothy (Gina) Smith. Grandchildren Dena (Tim) Whitehead, Dawn (Jon) Felton, Brad (Danielle) Smith, Stephanie (Brian) Nye, Katelyn (Michael) Sofka, Melissa (Jesse) Koza. Great grandchildren include Natalie and Zachary Whitehead, Collin, Christian, Peyton and Macy Felton, Gabe and Briana Smith, Alex Sedowsky, Delaney Nye. Austrian “daughter” Sissi (Walter) Kleinsasser

She was preceded in death by her parents Anna and Jack Stahl, Brother Joel Stahl, Spouses Joseph Stockstill and John Conrad, Daughter Debbie Smith.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at The Abbewood Senior Living, First Light Home Care and Western Reserve Navigator and Hospice Programs.

A Celebration of Life is planned after the first of the year, date to be determined.

The family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to one of the following charities:
