Shawn Charles Thomas, age 52, of Canton, Ohio passed away after a long struggle with diabetes complications. He joined the Catholic Church as an adult and was a member of St. Mary/St. Benedict Parish in Canton. Shawn was the eldest child and only son of Tom and Patti Thomas. He graduated from Canton McKinley HS in 1988, where he enjoyed being a trainer for the football and basketball team. He went on to college at Ohio State University and was proud of his time as an aid to then Lt. Governor Mike Dewine. He returned to Canton, got married, and with his former spouse, Sondra (May), had two children, Jacob and Abigail. He returned to college and earned a Master’s Degree from The University of Phoenix. Shawn was most recently employed by Aultman Hospital even though his health made it a challenge, he stopped working in 2021. Shawn helped establish Canton Little League when his son, Jacob took an interest in baseball. He played Santa for many years at local Christmas events and was a sci-fi fan; especially Star Trek, Star Wars, and Dr. Who. But what Shawn valued above all was family. He always looked forward to family gatherings and loved his children more than anything.
Shawn’s memory will live on the hearts of those he leaves behind; children, Jacob and Abigail; father, Tom; sister, Melanie; niece, Sophia; dear friend, Rebekah Berrick; plus, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A private celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to cover final expenses and provide some financial support for his children who are both currently in college
