Stephen Mathew Miller

Stephen Mathew Miller, age 49, from Akron, Ohio unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord on Monday May 2

nd

, 2022, at the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center | Cleveland Clinic, in Akron Ohio after a long illness.

Stephen was born on Sunday March 11

th

, 1973, in Akron, Ohio and from the moment of his birth until his passing, he did life his way.  As a child, Stephen was full of potential, a procrastinator, a dreamer, intelligent and he inherited the famous “Miller Stubbornness”. He was so intelligent he was able to get out of dinner dishes just about every night.

As a young man Steve had the most amazing gold blonde hair and beautiful blue eyes.  He was sensitive, determined, and loving.  When asked who’s boy are you his only answer would be “I’m mom’s boy”.

In his twenties Stephen knew he had to find a better road in life, he knew he needed to save his life, so he joined the Navy.  Eventually, he graduated boot camp and was assigned to the U.S.S. George Washington.  Steve was so proud of this accomplishment that he spoke of it until the day he died.

After leaving the Navy Steve found his true love in life, cooking.  Eventually, he was hired at “The Wine Merchant”, down in the Valley where he was mentored and his love of being a chef truly blossomed into a lifetime passion.

He loved trains, watching golf, and he knew more about which stocks to buy that anyone we knew.

Steve was loving but stern.  He was the kind of person that if he’d “been there / done it” that he’d tell you to learn from him and stop doing it or knock it off.  And when he was wrong, he’d eventually get around to admitting it to you. “Miller Stubbornness”.

When he loved you, his heart was all in.  Every time he spoke to his mom he sang “You are my Sunshine” to her, even on the days he was so sick.

And even though we know you are in the hands of God, we know that you are free of pain, that you are walking and smiling, we are heartbroken without you.  There’s not been a day that we haven’t cried, talked about, or felt your absence.  We love you.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Harold and Bernice Triplett and paternal grandparents James and Marguerite Miller.

He is survived by his only child, Haily Golden, of Akron, OH.  His longtime partner, Stephanie Musarra.  His beloved cat, Buddy. His mother who raised him, Georgette (Nee Triplett) Miller of Tallmadge, OH, along with his father Gerald (stepmother Linda) Miller of Reidsville, NC. His brother John (Jean) Miller of Reidsville, NC.  His sister Jenny Miller of Wadsworth, OH.

He is also survived by nieces and nephews Donnie Schaffer, Cheyenne Miller (fiancé Colton Tish), Victoria (Joseph) Luke, Hunter Bellman, John T. Miller, and great nieces Malena and Edie Rose.

Special thanks to our special nurse, Mary Ellen, at the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center | Cleveland Clinic for really taking the time to answer all our questions and being a true believer in Christ.

Special thanks to all our family and friends who pulled together, visited Steve, made food, called, gave us hugs, who just loved us during this heartbreaking time.  Thank you and we love you so much.

A celebration of life service will be planned for a later date.
